Yo Gabba Gabba

Lotus is amongst her Yo Gabba Gabba stuffies, which is from one of the handful of shows on Netflix she likes. The girl loves her TV shows.

Isaac loved watching TV when he was little and then the next two weren’t that interested…and now we’re back to TV love.

Worst Day of the Year bike ride in PDX

We managed to get all three bikes, including the Yuba Mundo, on the bike rack for the 16 mile, Worst Day of the Year Ride in Portland. It was foggy and chilly but luckily no rain. yay!

Our costume was “Our Family Garden” or as many people shouted at us, “Flower Power!”

Jason caught me with a weird expression but Lotus required some nursing stops on the curb a couple times, this one was even before we started…

Lined up at the start. There was very loud, awesome drum music playing-a real pep rally.

Too many stops and starts for me to manage the cargo bike, so I took Jason’s bike and he did the big job.

The camera battery died early on. Does that always happen? Luckily Jason had his iPod so we were able to get a few more lower quality pics.

One of the course pit stops and another mama-Lotus curb snuggle. There were three stops and each one had treats. The kids loved it!

Isaac says, “Why are they celebrating? They didn’t do anything.” That’s right, Isaac, you did an amazing job keeping up with us! His legs were sore by the end.

Just hanging at home

happy day

In a digital world, it warms my heart when the kids go outside to play all on their own, especially in winter. Xander and Simon were making a Spiderman video and Lotus was stepping in dog poop. Oops! A little yard clean-up is in order.

I spy with my little eye: a Simon, thrilled with some fairy wings passed on by my good friend Kristin…

We also received this awesome hand-crafted soap dispenser from Kristin! Isn’t it gorgeous? She creates beautiful things on her potter’s wheel.

We are still planning on doing the 16 mile “Worst Day of the Year” bike ride in Portland this weekend.

In an effort to keep Lotus’ hands warmer on the bike, I made her some itty bitty fingerless mitts. The smallest store-bought mitts we could find were still too big. These fit perfect! The pattern is here.

We could walk to our neighborhood park, but why?

Have I mentioned how much I love my bike?? Every time we hop on, we all unanimously squeal how much fun it is.

Fresh air!

We spent an entire week housebound with the Norovirus, or whatever the nasty stomach thing is going around, and then I thought Xander had the chicken pox but it turned out to be hives. Thank goodness it resolved itself because that would have been another month stuck at home while it worked its way through all the kids.

Xander is like our canary in the mines. He will break out in the sniffles, itchy red eyes and rash if we step onto a public bus or other random times. I have not figured out exactly what the allergy is.

Today we were all feeling good and got outside for some fresh air.

It turns out the weather was not cold enough for mitts. Hurray!

We stopped at Bagley Park. I have never seen so many people at the park on a week day.

I wanted to take the kids to lunch downtown Main street but it is so frustrating cycling there: No bikes allowed on the sidewalks, no bike paths and side streets crammed with parked cars. We got off our bikes and walked them down the sidewalk only to discover the one tiny bike rack was full.

So we continued our journey to the grocery store…

I’ve used this deli for years, mostly for a sandwich. We decided to go crazy and actually look at the menu on display and order the gyro, grilled cheese, etc. I guess we are not the only ones to never look at the menu because they acted like no one had ever ordered that stuff. They had to send someone out to find gyro bread and fries. Xander ordered an “egg sandwich” and I thought it was funny they didn’t ask him how he wanted his egg. We waited for the surprise and…

…egg salad sandwich came. Surprise! The funniest part was how flustered they got. The entire deli came to a halt because of the “huge order they just got” ($26 worth of food). I guess we do live in a small town?

I learned it’s better to have both saddle bags on the bike when grocery shopping. All the weight on one side makes it hard to get going and I felt it pulling to that side. Never rely on “I’m just going to grab a few things.” Next thing you know-fruit, milk, cereal, toy handcuffs, cookies…

Friday night! Woot!

I’m flirting with the idea of new countertops this year. Maybe?

I wanted a photo of us in my knits: shawl, new hat and Jason’s new sweater vest. Jason and Isaac have something in common when it comes to photos-they get stiff and forget how to smile. Ha!
Dscn0327Knits0113Web
Hey! We got a smile but now we’re out of focus. Oh well.

See what I mean about Isaac and Jason? Two peas in a pod. Yes, we got all dolled up to go to an indoor children’s play place. This is our life right now.

My new knitting project is a multicolored shawl and I LOVE how it is turning out. It is going to be one gorgeous hippie wrap.

My new hat!

Uh oh! I downloaded an app for posting to my blog from the iPad. This could mean more crappy iPad photos in my blog’s future. Hopefully not.

After spending more than a month on Jason’s sweater vest, it was wonderful to be able to make myself a sweet little slouchy hat in a day. Knit with the same luxurious yarn used for Jason’s project, it is so soft and cozy…

I still have almost two skeins of this yarn left. Blue Sky Alpaca Worsted Hand Dyes, if anyone wants to pamper themselves.

wood pile 2013

Xander-cam once again…

We got a pile of GREEN wood today. What does it take to find seasoned wood close by?? It’s Oregon, you’d think it would be easy. Maybe it’s because we are wood stove noobs still. At least it will be good for next year.

PS-As a knitter, I should have a better hat. It may be my next project: a new hat and a pair of fingerless mitts. for moi.

Snapped these pics of the kids having breakfast today because it made me laugh seeing tiny Lotus eating up at the bar with the big kids. She’s growing!

I finished a second sweater vest for Jason and it is COZY! I might be stealing it often. It’s a merino/alpaca hand dyed wool and it is so soft and warm.

This pic I tried to take of myself because Xander kept getting it out of focus. Not so great but I love the evil grinned, Simon photo bomb. I love that guy’s sense of humor.

Xander tries again with better results. Hours and hours of knitting…
